Alumni Composers Forums

Composers Forums are a highlight of the Young Musicians Program. A dedicated group of alumni and staff have decided to extend participation in these informative and engaging forums to Walden School and Junior Conservatory Camp alumni/ae throughout the year. For the first time ever, The Walden School will host alumni Composers Forums in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City! This is an opportunity for alumni composers to gather and share a night of original works for small ensemble. We are looking forward to a great Opus 1 of what promises to become an annual activity. The first forums will take place in late April or early May. Be a part of the fun!

Guidelines for submissions to the forums:

  • Individual pieces can be a maximum length of 8 minutes, but shorter pieces are also welcome.
  • Your piece should be for a small ensemble or solo instrument.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Esther Landau by phone (415-648-4710) or email (forums@waldenschool.org) by March 23rd.

When you contact us, please let us know:

  • The length and instrumentation of your piece
  • If you know performers who would be willing to play your piece on a volunteer basis
  • If you can play your own piece
  • If you are willing to play the music of other composers on the forum
  • Your availability in late April or early May

The programming will be limited to 1.5 hours for music and discussion. The Forum Committee will include as many pieces as possible from interested alumni composers, but submission is not a guarantee that your piece will be programmed this time around. Luckily, there will be more forums to come! And while the Forums will feature works by alumni composers only, the events will be open to anyone who wants to attend.
