Walden Events Roundup

Past Events:

On September 21st seven San Francisco Bay Area Walden School alumni celebrated the last day of summer by hiking in Castle Rock State Park.

Junior Conservatory Camp alumna Marilyn Crispell’s solo piano performance at the San Francisco Jazz Festival on October 26th was attended by Walden and Junior Conservatory Camp alumni/ae. After her enchanting improvisations the group gathered for food and madrigals at the home of Ruth Rainero, Pieter de Haan, and their children Benjamin and Ilana.

The month of December was packed with Walden gatherings. The San Francisco Bay Area Walden hikers traversed the paths of Muir Woods on December 7th. On December 11th Walden parent Mark Ettinger hosted a potluck at his Manhattan home, at which a few dozen alumni and friends of Walden had an eclectic open mic session after consuming copious amounts of food. San Francisco Walden friends decided to celebrate the holidays as well with a West Coast house party on December 28th, generously hosted once again by the Rainero-de Haan family.

Walden also celebrated the Year of the Ox at the Chinese restaurant Home on 8th in Manhattan on January 24th. Leo Wanenchak, Carrie Mallonee, Marguerite Ladd and Seth Brenzel joined with 30 other alumni and friends for an evening of speedy chopsticks and delicious conversation.

Upcoming Gatherings:

On March 21st, The Walden School will host a dinner and concert to celebrate the Chanticleer premiere of a new work by Shawn Crouch. Hailed as “the world’s reigning male chorus,” by the New Yorker magazine, the evening will involve a dinner with Shawn and discounted tickets to the concert in San Francisco on March 21st. Save the date for what promises to be a great evening.
