Walden Widget: Countdown to Summer 2009

Have you ever wondered, "How many days until Walden's Young Musicians Program begins?" You're not alone. Many students, parents, faculty and alumni track this countdown by crossing off days on calendars, but that system may be too imprecise for some Waldenites. What if you want to know not only how many days, but how many hours, minutes, and even seconds until the summer truly begins?

For many people the summer officially begins this year on June 27th at 6:00 pm (EST). Marshall Bessières, one of Walden’s veteran and multitalented faculty members, decided to make it easier for anyone with a Mac (sorry Windows users) to track the countdown to the beginning of camp – down to the second – with the use of a widget.

A widget – as defined by Wikipedia- is an object on a computer screen that a user interacts with. While this isn’t the classical use of the word, Apple users have found these little programs to be helpful in converting units of measurement and translating text, to finding recipes and now, knowing exactly how many days, hours and seconds until the summer truly begins. Thanks to Marshall for creating this countdown clock, and for sharing it with all of us.
