Prior experience in music composition or improvisation is not necessary, although we do require that students have completed at least 1 year of private instrumental instruction.

The application requires that you complete and send to The Walden School the following:

  • $50 non-refundable application fee
  • Teacher Recommendation (form provided in application packet)
  • Short personal statement / essay
  • Completed Application Form

Additionally, you may also submit the following:

  • Financial Aid Application and accompanying tax information
  • Tapes, scores, samples of creative work, or other materials

On occasion, for students 11 and under, we are able to consider a 2- or 3-week session, although there is no guarantee that we are able to provide this program. Students who have reached their 12th birthday by July 1 are not eligible for a shorter session.

The Walden School does not offer a day-program option. All students must live on-campus in order to participate.

Tuition, Room & Board, and Financial Aid

The cost for tuition, room and board for the 2008 Session is $5,900.

This fee covers all meals, housing, instruction, concerts, coachings & lessons, supervision, laundry and recreation fees. This amount does not include transportation to and from The Walden School.

Financial Aid is available for qualified students. 37% of students in 2007 received some form of need-based financial aid, with award amounts ranging from $600 to $5,000. A completed financial aid application is required to be eligible for financial aid. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions regarding tuition and financial aid.
