Moderators: Pat Plude and Cody Wright

During Composers Forums at Walden, students present their improvisational or compositional works in a concert setting. Forums are overseen by an independent moderator who leads a discussion of each piece with students, faculty, and the audience. The emphasis on creative work at Walden is on process over product, and Forums provide a unique opportunity for musical and personal growth. Our Alumni Forums are organized in much the same way, and for the same purpose. Alumni at any stage of their careers may present completed works or works-in-progress for their peers and members of the public. The format then allows composers to discuss their process and receive feedback from performers and listeners alike. The setting is casual and supportive and is appropriate for attentive listeners of all ages. At Walden, past forum moderators have included Joan Tower, Samuel Adler, Martin Bresnick, Earle Brown, Andrea Clearfield, Adolphus Hailstork, Stephen Jaffe, Russell Pinkston, Jennifer Higdon, Bright Sheng, John Weaver, and Chen Yi.
